Does Mesotherapy Treatments Work on Cellulite?get rid of cellulite.
This procedure is accomplished through the injection of small amounts of various drugs, nutrients and enzymes directly into the fatty middle layer of skin where cellulite occurs. This procedure has become very popular throughout the world, with rapidly increasing usage in the US over the last decade.
What is Mesotherapy?
Mesotherapy treatments are non-surgical invasive medical procedures that are widely used to treat physical and cosmetic abnormalities. This type of treatment targets problem areas with micro injections of conventional or homeopathic medicines. Tiny injections of these highly specific substances are delivered directly into the mesoderm or middle layer of skin.
Among the many applications for mesotherapy treatment include promoting weight loss, providing anti-aging benefits, eliminating localized fat deposits and cellulite. A relatively new medical science in the US, mesotherapy was developed during the early 1950s by the French physician, Dr. Michel Pistor, MD.
How Does Mesotherapy Work?
This procedure targets adipose fat cells by inducing lipolysis, which is essentially the breakdown of lipids within the fat cell, causing it to rupture and disintegrate. Mesotherapy treatment is characterized as an allopathic medical procedure, in that medicinal agents are injected into the mid layer of skin to produce therapeutic effects, i.e; the elimination of cellulite fat.
In his Reflex Theory, Dr. Pistor demonstrated that mesotherapy interrupts the lipid storage process that normally occurs on a cellular level. This is affected with micro injections using small doses of medicine, nutrients and enzymes. Although mesotherapy treatments are commonly used to eliminate cellulite, these procedures are employed to eliminate wrinkles and stimulate hair growth as well as remove scars & stretch marks!
What Are the Side Effects of Mesotherapy?
The side effects of mesotherapy treatment are usually reported as minimal by most of those who've opted for this procedure. Some patients with low pain thresholds have requested a local anesthetic prior to treatment. However, the majority of mesotherapy patients reported only mild discomfort during the procedure.
Some patients complained of a mild burning effect following mesotherapy treatments. This temporary side effect may be the result of the injected compounds as they break down cellulite fat. Some patients have reported sporadic numbness after a session, but as with the other complaints, this usually resolved itself after few days.
The most common side effects caused by mesotherapy treatments include edema and/or bruising at the injection site, which may also feel somewhat itchy for several hours after treatment. Temporary skin discoloration may also occur, but should disappear on its own in a week or so.
The doctor may recommend the application of a topical cream containing aloe vera gel, vitamin E or the herbal supplement arnica montana to minimize bruising; and may further advise that patients wear loose fitting garments and avoid arduous physical activities for 24 hours after receiving mesotherapy treatment.
Does Mesotherapy Work?
Although the drugs and other ingredients used in mesotherapy injections are FDA approved, they haven't been approved specifically for cellulite treatment. There is no set formula or recommended dosage for the injections. Each doctor must exercise his/her own best judgment to determine the best formula and dosage for each individual seeking mesotherapy treatments.
Doctors who offer this procedure for the treatment of cellulite do so under the premise that mesotherapy is more effective than topical anti-cellulite cream. Many clients who've undergone mesotherapy treatment agree, but personal results will vary, as they often tend to do.
There is never any guarantee that cosmetic procedure, topical remedies or any other type of cellulite removal treatments will actually cure the problem. There always exists a chance that, even when the treatment successfully eliminates your cellulite, the problem may re-occur in the future. Therefore a maintenance therapy plan should be considered, and implemented as needed.
How Long to Achieve Mesotherapy Results?
Each individual patient is unique, and experiences vary, depending on multiple factors that also differ from one patient to the next. Some patients see improvements shortly after the initial treatment session, while others may require several treatments to achieve visible results.
Typically, the patient will only begin to recognize positive changes when clothing appears to fit more comfortably and/or when friends & family compliment the patient on his/her appearance. Mesotherapy treatments must be spaced apart by 10 days to two weeks, or after the subsequent bruising and edema caused by the pior session have disappeared.
Is Mesotherapy Worth the Costs?
While there is quite a bit of anecdotal evidence that mesotherapy can minimize the appearance of cellulite, there exists no clinical data to prove the safety and effectiveness of this treatment or it's results.
Each doctor determines the recipe and dosage to use for mesotherapy injections, so it is important to thoroughly investigate the doctor's credentials and patient references to gauge his/her success rate. This procedure is not cheap either. You may requite 5 to 10 sessions at approximately $150 per session to realize optimal results. This is generally comparable to other minor aesthetic surgeries and procedures.
